Who are we?
Verdadera Compasión is a non-profit organization based in Colombia, South America that advocates for the rights of animals. Our mission is to educate the general public about veganism as the ethical solution to the animal exploitation problem.
Beginning in early 2003, Verdadera Compasión established itself as the first animal rights group that brought new topics like veganism to the attention of the current welfare organizations, this way Verdadera Compasión took an important role in the animal rights movement.
Why Animal Rights in Colombia and South America?
Animal rights groups are important for movement all over the world. Developing countries are lagging behind in animal rights issues. It’s undeniable that there is a relationship between human violence and animal abuse; this is why it’s not a surprise that a lot of these countries have some of the worst practices against animals, including bullfighting and cock fighting among others. It is also in these countries where the most cruel and urregulated farming and slaughtering practices take place.
During the past few decades, animals have had no voice in these countries; many times ignored by a society that focus its attention on social problems like poverty and civil conflicts. Verdadera Compasión is the voice of these voiceless animals that has been heard by thousands of people during these years.
Our Work
Our work is based on outreach activities in order to bring out our message of animal rights to the public, especially young people. One of the most common activities is tabling at concerts, universities and schools. We schedule talks in which we address all the issues around the exploitation of animals. Video screenings followed by discussions are also part of our campaigns.
